Police rescue victim, kill five abductors in Cross River forest

Men of the Cross River State Command of the Nigerian Police Force in Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River state have rescued a supermarket owner, Mrs Asimco from kidnappers.

In their bid to save the kidnap victim who was abducted her last Saturday, five of the kidnappers were however killed when the security personnel swooped on their hideout located  deep into the forest.

The kidnappers had initially called the family of the victim to demand ransom before effecting her release to the family were caught unawares when the police stormed their base killing some of them in the process.

According to a police source, the security men traced the bandits to a forest in Ikom and the kidnappers engaged them in a gun duel.

Four of the bandits were killed in the forest. One was caught alive and brought to the police station in Ikom and our source said the surviving bandit was shot by a policeman at the station.
