Unnamed stakeholders want Joshua v Klitschko re-match to hold in Abuja

Some unnamed officials in the nation’s capital, Abuja are said to have indicated the country’s interest in hosting the much touted rematch between former holder, Wladimir Klitschko and Nigerian born world heavyweight champion , Anthony Joshua.
Though it remained unclear who are those rooting for the rematch, sources close to the seat of power hinted the prospects of putting up a strong bid for the bout seem very high.
Though promoter Eddie Hearn maintained that Las Vegas was the most likely choice for the big-fight, with the gambling capital of the US providing Joshua with the American exposure needed to make a unification clash with Deontay Wilder the huge money-spinner it will certainly become.
But today (Tuesday), the possibility of the fight being staged in Africa is looming large.
Hearn has admitted he is sifting through offers, two of which have come from Nigeria, to stage the fight in the capital city of Abuja.
Discussing the prospect Hearn has remarked to the media, “We have had two approaches to stage it in Abuja and we are going through the contracts.
“China have been on and Dubai have been on.
“I asked AJ how did he feel about fighting in Abuja and it was ‘Yeah, I could be the first guy to do that.”
Now I’ve nothing against Nigeria, I’m sure they’ll put on a fantastic show if the fight does take place there, but will it have the glitz of a fight-night in Las Vegas, or is that something Hearn is saving for later in Joshua’s career?
