No doubt, that the whole city is agog and every single person can attest that Lagos is in a joyous, celebratory mood of its landmark anniversary. As a home for all and sundry, the golden jubilee anniversary of Lagos is pertinent to all. This is because of all the 12 states created in 1967 by General Yakubu Gowon, Lagos State since may 27, 1967 has remained indivisible as nothing has touched it and no state has been carved out of it, its map has remained the same as it was 50 years ago.

Politically and economically Lagos has proven to be the powerhouse and nerve centre of the country where other states come to learn the art of modern and accountable governance. Continuity is a word that finds home in Lagos; that each time the Federal government wishes to get it right; it relies on the ideas, support and manpower from Lagos.

In the business and economy front, Lagos also holds the ace. It is a state that does not rely on oil to prosper yet the Creator finds her worthy to be counted among oil-producing states. Findings has shown that the IGR in Lagos is bigger than those of 32 states of the federation put together while its GDP is bigger than that of Kenya and Ghana combined, that if it was to be a country, Lagos would be Africa’s fifth largest economy as it is considered Nigeria’s and West Africa’s commercial and creative hub. Taking a look at the giant strides that the state has made in the last two years under the administration of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, with the legacies and iconic projects it is evident that indeed Lagos is the center of excellence.

In governance, the state has demonstrated its leadership position as the centre of excellence, breeding capable and visionary leaders since 1999. In 1991 the capital of federation was moved from Lagos to Abuja; however the state has recorded more development, in the last 26 years of not being a capital city. Lagos is commendable for its revenue and budget performance which has topped 75% to 80% in the last three years.

Bearing in mind the economic growth of Lagos, there is no doubt that Lagos has been an ideal cosmopolitan city that has given hope and succor to many at a time that the country is experiencing some dire straits.

With the present Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, the future of Lagos is bright: He is a cerebral accountant who understands how to manage men and resources even when Nigeria is faced with hard times.

The present administration running a government of inclusiveness is on its toe to make sure that no aspect of the state is neglected in its developmental strides. Having a keen interest in arts, entertainment, tourism as well as sports are veritable areas for job creation and youth engagement.

it is an administration dedicated to revamping the four pillars of development as they affect the economy, security, transportation and the environment.

Today, Lagos is moving from a mega city to a smart city where technology  drives development, innovations and security therefore let us collectively rises to celebrate this great city as this golden jubilee celebration is for Lagosian and by Lagosians.
