Ex-Reps speaker, Nwuche drums up support for Buhari

By Tom Amakri, Port Harcourt

A former Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Chibudom Nwuche has urged youths in the Niger Delta to continue to pray for the well-being of President Muhammadu Buhari as well as to support him.

Nwuche also asked the youths of the region to remain law abiding and shun all forms of violence and vandalism as a response to the despoliation and neglect of the oil rich region.

A statement by Media Assistant to Nwuche, Iyke Anyaduba, said that former Deputy Speak stated this while addressing youths, elders and women groups who visited his country home in Port Harcourt to commiserate with him during the burial of his uncle Akubasi Nwuche.

It said that Nwuche appealed to the groups to continue to identify with the Buhari administration’s sincere resolve to improve the living condition of the people of the Niger Delta,

The former Deputy Speaker, the statement said, expressed regret that it is the people of Niger Delta, especially the youths, who continued to suffer and remained the ultimate losers as a result of the disruption and destruction of oil and gas infrastructure with its consequent environmental degradation.

It said that Nwuche observed with sadness that Niger Delta people had suffered so much neglect in the past and benefitted nothing from past governments.

It said that Nwuche remined the groups that “all acts of militancy are likely to inflict more pains on our people as it will destroy infrastructure and negatively impact on our environment as well as wreak havoc on our rivers, farmlands, flora and fauna”.

It said, “He admonished the youths to continue to embrace constructive dialogue and also to resist any attempt to get them involved in any attacks on vital facilities and infrastructure in the Niger Delta region by persons who are obviously pushing their own selfish agenda rather than fighting the Niger Delta cause.”
