Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit (Task Force) have rescued a 4 month old baby dumped inside a bag at under bridge Oshodi by the mother who was also arrested.
According to Taofiq Adebayo the public relations of the unit, the rescue and arrest happened when the Chairman, Olayinka Egbeyemi, a Superintendent of Police led the enforcement team on routine duty under bridge at Oshodi where they rescued the baby boy who was naked, packed inside a bag and dumped under the bridge by his mother.
Egbeyemi disclosed that the mother of the baby was arrested by an official of the agency while running away after she had dumped the baby.
The chairman stated that after interrogation, the woman confessed that she dumped the baby because she could no longer take care of him as non of her family members were ready to accommodate her with the baby.
The mother of the baby, Mrs. Timilehin Adeshina, 18, said she was sent out with the baby by her mother to go and locate the man who impregnated her after she gave birth.
“My mother sent me out because I gave birth and could not identify the man who impregnated me as different men slept with me”
According to her she dropped from school in JSS 11 because of poverty and that she was schooling at Lovely School, Ejigbo, Lagos.
Adeshina said her mother, Mrs. Zabela Adeshina from Delta State who sent her out lives at No 26 , Coker Street,, Ejigbo, Lagos and that her father, Mr. Adeshina who hails from Abeokuta in Ogun State died 9 years ago.
She however hinted that while sleeping outside with her baby several men paid to engaged her in sex.
Egbeyemi confirmed that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, who has been duly briefed about the incident has directed that both the rescued baby and his mother be immediately transfered to ‘Social Welfare’ Department of the Lagos State Ministry of Youths and Social Development.
