Oyo begins biometric data capturing of tradesmen, artisans

Oyo State Government has flagged off biometric data capturing for 440,000 tradesmen and artisans in the state.

The state government stated that the aim of the initiative is to ensure easy identification and to eradicate impersonators among them.

Governor Abiola Ajimobi while flagging off the exercise in Ibadan on Thursday, said his government had conceptualised the initiative for those category of people in order for them to have a sense of belonging and identification.

Reeling out the benefit, Ajimobi said:” In this country when we are talking about tradesmen and artisans, you will be recognised and can be easily located by customers. It is also a means of recognition by government and law. It will also serve as a legit means of identification for artisans. It gives them easy patronage by government and individual anytime they needs goods and services and we will ensure that our contractors make use of the artisans with this easy identification.

“It will also enable tradesmen and artisans to have easy access to government loans and benefit. It enables them to benefit government social services. Incorporation of award programmes for outstanding artisans and easy identification of imposters and impersonators” he said

Earlier in his address, the President of Tradesmen and Artisans in Oyo State, Alhaji Hamzat Kolayode said that the present number of artisans in the state is 440,000?, adding that with the data collected will enable them to have their exact figure.

According to him, “This data capturing would flux out some bad eggs among artisans that are being engaged in bad habit in the state. Proper data of tradesmen and artisan would be kept by government for future development. ”

Kolayode commended the governor for the N50 million loan given to artisans and pilgrimage slot given to their members.
