No fewer thank 13 members the 2016 batch B Stream II Corp members serving in Oyo State on Tuesday evening escaped death by whisker at the Iseyin orientation camp of the National Youth Service Camp (NYSC).

It was gathered that the Corp members under the aegis of Nigerian Christian Corpers Fellowship (NCCF), were having their evening fellowship when their worship centre collapsed with the stands and cover fallen on the corpers and injuring most of them.

A Corp member noted that it was the heavy breeze from the rain that pulled down the tent, adding that immediately the sad event occurred pandemonium erupted when the corpers where trying to save the lives of their colleagues.

“Although normalcy has since return to camp after the injured members were taking to hospital. There was no immediate medical aide to them in the camp but there were taking to a private hospital outside the camp and we leant that they are responding to treatment. Some were injured in the head, hand, leg, back, among others” the source said

Confirming the incident in a statement issued yesterday, the Public Relations Officer, NYSC Oyo State, Mr Kehinde Bankole, said the collapse of the wooden structure worship centre was as a result of the first rain of the year.

“To the glory of Almighty God who stretched his ever protective arms to cover the entire camp community and prevented NYSC family nationwide from weeping and people of Nigeria especially the parents, guardians, loved ones and the stakeholders that no death was recorded at our camp.

“Of truth, the worship centre of NCCF was violently destroyed by raging winds during fellowship hours and 13 corps members who sustained injuries were given the best of medical treatment at a certified hospital in Iseyin, where the camp is situated” he said

The spokesperson of NYSC dispelled the rumour making rounds that some corps members are in critical condition, adding that all corpers in the camp are hale and hearty.
