PDP spits fire over Fayose, says remove governor and see hell

By Sunday Aloba, Ado-Ekiti

The Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned an alleged plot by the All Progressives Congress (APC) remove Governor Ayo Fayose from power through the Judiciary.

The party said the alleged plot to oust Fayose would trigger “a crisis of monumental proportion that would be difficult for the Nigerian Army to curtail” if it is eventually carried out.

In a chat with reporters in Ado Ekiti, on Thursday, state PDP Chairman, Gboyega Oguntuase, warned that the alleged plot could lead to the collapse of the APC-led Federal Government if eventually executed.

Fayose had recently alleged that the APC has hatched a plot to compromise a section of the Judiciary to oust him from office accusing former Governors Segun Oni and Kayode Fayemi of being the arrowheads of the plot an allegation denied by the duo.

Oguntuase defended Fayose’s action of writing a petition to the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, in which he raised the alarm noting that it behoves on the nation’s top judge to prevent the Judiciary from being manipulated.

According to him, it was wrong to believe that Fayose was playing to the gallery by raising alarm in his letter to the CJN saying the action was to alert Nigerians that “democracy is in danger.”

Contrary to insinuation by some people that the governor only played to the gallery by his letter to the CJN, Oguntuase justified the action, saying “it was not misdirected since it was reliably gathered that a section of the judiciary was allegedly involved in the evil plot”.

He said it was illegal, unconstitutional and against the rule of law to attempt to reopen a case that had been resolved from the Lower Tribunal to the Supreme Court.

The PDP boss argued that it was not in doubt that Fayose won the June 21, 2014 governorship election insisting that any attempt to remove him through the backdoor will not succeed.

Oguntuase described Fayose as “a man of the people and the opposition leader in the country, who commands enormous followership across the six geopolitical zones of the country.”

He said: “Governor Fayose is not just the Governor of Ekiti State, but the opposition voice in Nigeria. He speaks for all the oppressed Nigerians in the Southwest, South East, South-South, North central and even in the far North.

“Removing Governor Fayose from the power is like removing the whole Ekiti who voted for him in all the 16 local government areas of this state. Any war wage against our governor will be resisted by the people from all these zones.

“Governor Fayose has been the most consistent critic of President Buhari’s government, particularly against the poorly managed economy leading to this recession . So, all Nigerians will rise against this evil plot.

“If you look at the results of the 2014 governorship poll, you would think it was a tsunami because he won in all the 16 local governments.

“If truly democracy still remains the government of the people, then attempt to remove Governor Fayose will be tantamount to usurpation of the people’s power”, he said.

Oguntuase appealed to Justice Onnoghen to do the needful by making the third arm of government apolitical to forestall the country’s judiciary from being desecrated by desperate politicians.
