 By Musa Gada, Sokoto

A’ fake’ Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal was Wednesday arrested in Sokoto by the state Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).The suspect, a 50 year old Bello Abdullahi is said to be impersonating Sokoto state Governor Aminu Tambuwal.

The impersonator was paraded before reporters by the Commandant of the Corps in the state, Mr Babangida Dutsin-Ma who said that the suspect was arrested on Wednesday after ”extorting” N20,000 from an unsuspecting Islamic Cleric in the state.

The Commandant said, “The suspect who resides in the Gobirare area of Sokoto city, had called the unsuspecting cleric that he would be

included in a high-powered proposed State Committee on Religious Affairs.

“So, the suspect used a telephone number, claiming to be Governor Tambuwal using a third party voice, asking the victim to provide N20,000, for the provision of  a certificate to qualify him for the membership of the proposed committee.

“He also called his victim, asking for another N 5,000 for registration and eventual inclusion in the proposed bogus committee. So, it was at that time that the victim became suspicious, reported the matter to us and we swung into action.”

According to the NSCDC Commandant, the suspect had sent another person to collect the initial N 20,000 and that was when he was arrested.

His words:” It was after the arrest of the errand man that he led us to where the fake Gov. Tambuwal was domiciled.

” We immediately arrested him, and we will charge him to court after the conclusion of our investigations.”

Similarly, the command says it had arrested two teenage

burglars at the Sokoto Central market, and an adult receiver.
