Court sentences NURTW strongman, ‘Auxiliary’, four others

An Oyo State High Court siting in Ibadan has, Monday, sentenced a former National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW boss, Alhaji Mukaila Lamidi a.k.a Auxiliary and four other members to six years in prison.

The accused persons, Mukaila Lamidi, Saidi Kareem, Taiwo Tijani (dead), Abu Kareem and Kazeem Kayode had been undergoing trial over three count charge of conspiracy, murder and attempted murder since 2014.

In her judgment, Justice Eniesan cleared the accused persons of murder and attempted murder because of the inability of the prosecuting counsel to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt.

She, however, found them guilty of conspiracy and thereby sentenced them to six years jail term without option of fine.

Meanwhile, counsel to the accused persons, Olalekan Ojo and Kayode Bakare have promised to appeal the judgment as pronounced by Justice Eniesan.
