LASG to float care centres to combat child kidnapping

By Dotun Omolaja, Lagos

Lagos State government has concluded plans to establish children day care centres across the state.

The move, the state government said, is forestall activities of child kidnappers who penetrate families disguising as caregivers.

Commissioner for or Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs.Lola Akande disclosed this on Tuesday during a fact finding interactive session with professional women associations organised by the state to examine the problems faced by women and children in the state.

The commissioner said the first set of child care centres will be established at Alausa Secretariat and Oba Akinjobi, GRA Ikeja areas of Lagos.

Akande decried the spate of kidnapping in the state and nation in general which she noted was taking a toll on women’s economic productivity owing to their anxiety over the welfare of their children while at work.

She listed facilities to be attached to these centres to include a standard training institute where caregivers and nannies will be trained, while a database will also be established for every one of them in the state.
