Oyo 2019: Drama as Alao-Akala shuns communications minister Shittu during visit

There was a mild drama on Sunday at the Ogbomosho country home of a former Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Alao Akala when the Minister of Communication, Mr. Adebayo Shittu who paid a courtesy visit.

According to sources close to the Ogbomosho born politician, the former governor shunned Shittu who came with a retinue of aides and supporters as his (Alao-Akala’s) aides said he was sleeping.

Shittu is believed to be interested in the governorship of Oyo State come 2019 was said to have undertaken the visit as part of his ongoing consultations with stakeholders in the state.

Sources close to the former governor told our correspondent that Alao-Akala who is said not to be too disposed to Shittu’s aspiration owing to years of political differences between the two gladiators.

Rather, the minister was received by some of the former governor’s aides including Alhaji Wasiu Olukan, Alhaji Abdulrasaq who told the shocked minister and his party that the former governor was sleeping and did not want to be disturbed.

“It was a rude shock to the minister and his team when the former governor just refused to see them but nothing could be done as the governor was not too disposed to seeing him.” The source told our correspondent on Monday night.

According to an inside source, “The minister and his entourage waited for about 30 minutes but later left after realizing that their host may not show up anytime soon.”

It was however gathered that few minutes after Shittu left, the former governor, Alao Akala attended to some undisclosed guests.

Shittu and Alao Akala have been political rivals since 2007 shortly after they both departed from the government of Senator Rashidi Ladoja where Akala was the deputy governor and Shittu was a commissioner.
