President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the sack of the former chairman of the Presidential Taskforce on Pension Reforms, Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina from the Federal civil service.
A statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina on Monday in Abuja stated that the decision is sequel to a memo to the acting Head of Service of the Federation urging her to act.
Maina who had been declared wanted by the Economic Financial and other Crimes Commission (EFCC) on allegation bordering on official graft was allegedly secretly re-absolved into the service in controversial manner.
The development prompted series of reactions from Nigerians who called on President Buhari to ensure that not only is the action reversed but that Maina should face trial for his role in the series of official corruption under his watch.
However in the statement issued by Adesina, he wrote that the President has “directed the immediate disengagement from service of Mr Abdullahi Abdulrasheed Maina, former chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms.
“In a memo to the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, the President equally demanded a full report of the circumstances of Maina’s recall and posting to the Ministry of Interior.”
The report is to be submitted to the office of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari, before the end of work today, Monday, October 23, 2017.
