President Muhammadu Buhari has received an invitation from his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan to attend this year’s G-8 summit scheduled to take place in Istanbul.
In a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Public Affairs, Mallam Garba Shehu on Saturday, the Turkish leader extended the invitation to Buhari during a phone conversation between the two on Saturday.
Shehu stated that Buhari expressed his gratitude for the invitation and the good wishes extended to him during the course of the conversation.
The [residential spokesman added that the Turkish leader felicitated with his Nigerian counterpart on his recovery from the medical condition that took him abroad.
According to Shehu in the statement obtained on Saturday, Erdogan also used the opportunity of the exchanges to wish Buhari well as he joins other Muslim faithfuls to mark this year’s Eid el Adha festival.
The statement reads in part, “The Turkish leader also exchanged Eid greetings with President Buhari. Both leaders wished each other good health and success in their endeavours and extended their greetings and good wishes to the citizens of their friendly countries.
“The two leaders also discussed at length, the forthcoming 9th Summit of D8, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation at the end of October in Istanbul.”
