Tears, eulogies as associates, family grace Lateef Raji’s 8th day fidau

Tears, emotions and eulogies flowed freely as associates (political and business) alongside family members gathered in Lagos for the eighth day fidau (Muslim prayers) organized in honour of late Alhaji Lateef Oludare Raji who passed on recently.

Raji who until his death on Monday August 14 in Lagos was a commissioner in the Lagos State Independent National Electoral Commission (LASIEC) was interred the same day in his hometown of Ido-Ani in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State in keeping with Islamic rites.

The deceased who was also the Chairman and Founder of Thrazel Nigeria Limited, the operator of BLACKFACE Media was aged 55 years old.

Friends, family members and associates on Monday organized the prayer session for Raji at the secretariat complex of Oshodi-Isolo Local Government whose Chairman, Hon. Bolaji Muse-Ariyoh hosted dignitaries present at the occasion.

Those who graced the occasion include, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode who was represented by one of his aides, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan, his Osun State counterpart, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola who was represented by one of his commissioners, Mr. Bola Ilori, a former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Abiodun Ogunleye.

Others that attended the meeting include the Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Chief Henry Oladele Ajomale, former commissioners in the state such as Lateef Ibirogba (Information and Strategy), Olayinka OIadunjoye (Education), Kayode Ope-Ifa (Transportation).

Also in attendance were scores of members of the APC who attended from far and wide to join their colleagues in Oshodi-Isolo Local Government, the home base of the deceased who was also a Special Adviser to former Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola’s special adviser on Media and Strategy.

In his sermon, a senior lecturer in the Department of Islamic and Arabic Studies in the Lagos State University, Dr. Saheed Timehin urged those present to always remember that death is a debt that all human beings must pay, saying all must endeavor to be good to all manner of people they come across while alive.

Appraising the life and times of the deceased, Timehin who was a friend and ally of Raji stated that he lived a life devoted to assisting the masses in their time of needs, saying if the comments of those that knew him was anything to go by, then paradise is assured for the late politician.

Timehin urged Muslim faithful to be conscious of the fact that death would one day and that there was life after death to which they should look forward through good deeds and fervent worship of Allah, the creator.

“If we consider the comments of people since the passage of our brother, Honourable Lateef Raji, then we can say that if God is going to use good deeds as the yardstick for admitting people into paradise, then, Aljaana Firsdaus is assured him in the hereafter because he touched the lives of many people when he was alive.” Timehin said.

On his part, Aregbesola who expressed sadness on the death however promised to do all within his powers to assist the family in mitigating the loss, which he described as colossal.
