Kano FRSC begin psychiatric tests for motorists in Kano

The Kano State sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has concluded arrangements to reintroduce psychiatric test on traffic offenders in the state.

According to a statement signed the Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Kabir Ibrahim Daura, the tests will be carried out at designated medical facilities in the state with a view to examine road users mental health.

“It is common known fact that FRSC over the years has embarked on several measures of road traffic dysfunctional deterrence, ranging from public education to subtle force, full enforcement as well as introduction of several strategy measures including the use of mobile courts, introduction of speed limiting device, all geared towards ensuring safer motoring environment.

“These efforts of the Corps are known to be yielding positive results but has been further noted that as one traffic challenge is being surmounted, another one reared its head; and this has compelled the Corps to reintroduce psychological test of traffic offenders.”

The statement added that, “the focus of this exercise, which will commence soon would be on the following behavior patterns identified as life threatening and by implication any motorists who commits one or multiple of these offences shall be deemed reasonably suspected to have issues that require psychological ascertainment relative to his/her stability to drive safely on the road.”

The statement mentioned the behavourial pattern to include route violation, overloading, use of phone while driving, traffic light/marking disobedience, among others.

The statement further urged motorists to continue to remain law-abiding in order to avoid being subjected to the examination process and subsequent withdrawal of their licenses, following the outcome of the test.
