Buratai in Yobe, enlist traditional rulers’ support to end insurgency

The Nigeria Army has sought for more support from the traditional institution against the war on Boko Haram insurgency in north east Nigeria.

The Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai stated this in Damaturu during a courtesy call on the Emir of Damaturu, His Royal Highness Alhaji Shehu Hashimi II Ibn Umar Elkanemi in his palace in Damaturu.

The chief of Army staff who was accompanied by top military brass including the Theatre Commander, Operation Lafia Dole, Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, Director Military Intelligence Maj. Gen. Abubakar Tarfa, etc said the traditional institution is key to defeating the insurgents due to their closeness to the people at the local level.

He commended the Emir and his subject for the cooperation they have given so far to the army in defeating the insurgents in Yobe State, adding that a Yobe still remains strategic in the fight because the insurgents still use the state as exit routes.

He called on the Emir to continue to mobilize his people on providing useful informations to security agents that will lead to the successful defeat of the insurgents.

In his response, the Emir commended the CAOS for his confidence in the traditional institutions.

He also praised the army for saving Damaturu from the hands of the insurgents, adding that with the fervent prayers of the people, the state is now enjoying some high degree of peace.

The royal father also promised to continue to mobilize his people in the area of giving out useful information to the security agencies.

The COAS with his entourage also visit the 3 Div Tactical headquarters in Damaturu where he interacted with the troops.
