Alimi, late Lagos lawmaker buried amidst tears

Tears flowed freely at the Victoria Vaults and Gardens Cemetery, Ahoyaya, Lagos, on Wednesday as a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Kazeem Alimi, who died on Tuesday, was buried.

Friends and sympathisers wore long faces, with many bursting into tears as the remains of the late lawmaker were lowered into the grave at 2:32pm.
Alimi, an All Progressives Congress (APC) member who represented Eti-Osa I in the House, died two weeks after celebrating his 50th birthday.

The former Chairman, House Committee on Local Government Administration and Community Affairs, breathed his last at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja where he was receiving treatment for an illness.

In a sermon at the ceremony,  the Chairman, Council Imams of Eti Osa, Abdulbani Afinni, said that death was inevitable for all human beings.

“Death is a necessary end and nothing happens without the knowledge of God,” he said.

The cleric prayed for God’s protection for the wife and the children of the deceased.

He used the opportunity to pray for peace in the family of the deceased, Lagos State and in the country.

Alhaja Adijat Alimi, wife of the late lawmaker, said the death of her husband was painful, but expressed gratitude to God for a life well spent.

She said that he would be greatly missed.

The Speaker of the House, Mr Mudashiru Obasa, who led other lawmakers to the burial, prayed that such a loss would not occur in the Assembly again.

Alimi, a second term lawmaker in the Assembly, is survived by his wife and children.

The burial ceremony was attended by lawmakers in the Assembly, politicians, representatives of royal fathers, friends and family of the deceased, among others.
