Bode George, Fani-Kayode, others jostle for PDP chairmanship

No fewer than four prominent members of the opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have signified their intention to vie for the national chairmanship of the party ahead of the forthcoming national convention scheduled October this year.

According to findings from our correspondent, those said to be in contention (at least for now) include the immediate past Deputy National Chairman, Chief Olabode George, a former Minister of Aviation, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode.

The others include a former Minister of Education, Professor Tunde Adeniran as well as a former governorship candidate of the party in Lagos State, Mr. Jimi Agbaje.

The aspirations of these gladiators might not be unconnected to the fact that the office had been zoned to the South West geopolitical zone where they all come from.

The National Executive Council had approved August 12, 2017 for non-elective convention but the elective one will come up later in the year.

A source close Agbaje told our correspondent that he would contest that the chairmanship but that he is currently making consultations with relevant stakeholders before making his aspiration public.

“I can tell you that our leader, Jimi Agbaje will contest the chairmanship of the PDP but what he is still waiting for the green light from relevant stakeholders before coming out to make his aspiration public,” the source who pleaded not to be mentioned said.
