LASU senate showers encomium on Prof. Mommoh

By Rachael Okporu
It is popularly said that, a good name is better than silver and gold. Little wonder Professor Abubakar Momoh while on earth lived a selfless and mentorship lifestyle with a keen interest for people to excel in all their endeavours.

The senate of the Lagos state university during a special valedictory session in honour of late Professor Abubaka, former Dean of the faculty of social science, describing him as an asset to the Lagos State University and the nation in general.

Members of the senate stated that Momoh is a man of loyalty, a bridge builder whose intellectual network has provided a link between the earlier generational scholars to the younger generation in social science, a man of generosity but not dogmatic.

Irrespective of the controversies and flippancy being found in the educational sector today, Abubakar is a man who believes in the future of Nigeria education, urging the senate to always nurture academic excellence in students.

It is sadden to know that Momoh died a day before his next reappointment as the Director General of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Electoral Institute.

The dean of Faculty of Social Science, Professor Wahab Elias also stated that Momoh has contributed immensely to his academic career sponsoring a first class graduate of Lagos state university for MSC in the United Kingdom and development of infrastructure in the faculty of social science.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Lanre Fagbolun who spoke on behalf of the management said that Abubakar Momoh is not only a researcher but a comforter and problem solver with no discrimination.  He stated “Abubakar Momoh has left a legacy that many will find difficult to achieve, he is a huge lose to the entire nations of the world”.

The senate, in conclusion, moved a motion of setting up a legacy institute in honour of Abubakar Momoh, a decision that was upheld without any descanting voice.
