Pomp as FUTA inaugurates new VC.

A new Vice Chancellor has been appointed for the Federal University of  Technology Akure (FUTA).  He is Prof. Joseph Adeola Fuwape. 

Fuwape succeeds Prof. Adebiyi Daramola who was accused of financial impropriety by some worker unions in the university. 

Daramola is presently facing trial by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).He handed over to Fuwape at a ceremony attended by academics, traditional rulers, politicians and students of the university. 

Fuwape, a Professor of Wood Engineering who attended the University of Ibadan for his first and second degrees in Forestry was decorated as the seventh substantive Vice Chancellor of the university by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, governing council of the university, Senator Joseph Waku. 

Waku in his speech urged students and members of staff of the university to direct their grievances to the new VC, rather than taking laws into their hands. 

He emphasized the need for workers and students of the university to embrace dialogue, rather than confrontation on issues bothering on their welfare. 

The new VC, Prof Fuwape assured that all the stakeholders of the university will be carried along in the discharge of his responsibilities. 

According to him, “I belong to every union in this university including the Students’ Union. For the next five years, I will remain a loyal member of all the unions on campu without prejudice to my primary constituency as a member of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.” 

He promised to transform the university and turn it to a world class university and a centre of Excellence which will serve as a pace setter for other universities in the country. 

The don pledged that his administration would focus on seven- key areas including improvement of quality of academic programmes, development of human resources, re-branding of the university, enhancement of workers and students welfare, deployment of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in learning and research and internalization and globalization. 

He enjoined the staff and students of the university to be disciplined and diligent in the discharge of their responsibilities to enjoy a cordial relationship with him. 

The Deji of Akure, Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo led other traditional rulers to the event which was also witnessed by the Bishop of Akure Diocese(Anglican Communion) Rev Simeon Borokinni among many other dignitaries.
