Scores of students of Lagos State Polytechnic, (LASPOTECH) Ikorodu, yesterday stormed the office of the state Governor, Mr Akinwumi Ambode, to protest the closure of the institution, due to the ongoing strike by the academic and non-academic staff of the institution. The protesting students led by the President of the Student Union Government of the Polytechnic, Mr.  DauduLawal, stormed Alausa in five buses chanting solidarity songs.

They also carried various placards with inscription, ‘Save Laspotech; Order that Laspotech be reopened; we are tired of staying at home among others.

Lawal said they decided to come to seek audience with the state government because they are tired of sitting at home appealing to the government to intervene and resolve the situation.

According to him, the final year students at National Diploma and Higher National Diploma had some weeks left to graduate when the institution staff started their strike.

He said that they felt the strike would not be more than one week, but were surprised to see the situation has lingered on to over a month now.

“We are here today to get the attention of the governor over this issue, and appeal to him to intervene so that we can return to school and complete our studies.”

Lawal who said an idle mind is the devil’s workshop, maintaining that it would be for the good of the society for the students to be back in class so that they would not be easy tools for criminal activities.

He pleaded with the governor to quickly accede to the request of the striking staff by paying the outstanding allowances and benefits they are being owned for years.

After presenting a protest letter to a functionary of the state government, the students did not leave immediately, though they were divided about living immediately.

Some Police officers were on ground to ensure that the protest does not degenerate into a rowdy session.
