Kudos to INEC for suspending indicted staffs in Diezani Allison Madueke N23b 2015 General Election bribe

The Committee for the Protection of Peoples Mandate (CPPM) commends and congratulates the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for suspending its staffs who were indicted by the EFCC investigative panel report for their role in the former petroleum minister Mrs. Diezani Allison Madueke bribe of N23 billion to compromise the 2015 general elections.

Once again, the Dr. Mahmud Yakubu led INEC, by this commendable action has shown that it is committed to the sanitization of our electoral system by disciplining its personnel who have been indicted for their roles with external collaborators in undermining the electoral process. It is a known fact that over the years, our electoral system has been bedeviled by challenges of stakeholders who are not prepared to play according to the rules and would go to any length including compromising electoral officers to undermine the democratic wish of the people. The time has come to send out a clear and unambiguous message to electoral offenders no matter where they are, that it can no longer be business as usual.

We at CPPM regard electoral offence as a violation of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which emphasizes that the process for assuming political office  must only be through elections conducted in compliance with the provisions of the electoral act by the elections management body.

Therefore, we call on INEC to ensure that the suspended INEC officials and their external collaborators are diligently prosecuted according to the law to serve as a deterrent to others and to signpost the electoral commission zero tolerance for electoral criminality.

Thanks.
