Kano State Government on Sunday kick started its mass wedding policy by joining no fewer than 1,520  divorcees and widows together at the Kano Central mosque.

This is as other top government officials supervised similar Islamic wedding at the other 44 local government areas making up the state.

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who climaxed the activities at the Government House Coronation Hall, reminded the couples that marriage requires endurance, perseverance, patience and understanding.

Also, Ganduje explained that the rationale behind the mass wedding is to halt the rampant indiscriminate divorce cases in the state.

The Commissioner for Information, Mallam Mohammad Garba, who supervised the mass wedding in Bukure, disclosed that it was sponsored by the state government to marry off the city’s rising number of widowed and divorced community.

According to Garba, the mass wedding is to ease the hardships being encountered by the less privileged in the society, who are in dire need of marriage, which indicated the willingness of the state government to improve the quality of lives of the citizenry ” he said.

Similarly, the mass wedding was held in all the 44 local government Areas, with  the commissioners and the head of agencies, who represented the State Governor on the occasion.

Garba gave N20,000 each to the representatives of the grooms, as dowry and the state government  provided the couples with free  furniture and other essential household items.

In his remarks on the occasion, the Hisbah Commander, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, said that the couples underwent medical screening to determine their health status.
Daurawa, also reminded the couples that any of them contemplating divorce, must report to the Hisbah Board before such approvals would be granted.
