Ita-Giwa says Nigeria needs love to overcome challenges

Former Presidential Adviser and a leader of the Bakassi people of Cross River State, Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, has urged Nigerians to love each to overcome the myriad of challenges it faces today.

Speaking during a Valentine Dinner organized by The Fusion Calabar in collaboration with Big Cola, Ita-Giwa said, love should transcend any differences among the people.

“It is a day to celebrate love, which is fast dying out of Nigeria. True undiluted love that does not does not crucify, that does not quarrel, that does not see anything bad in each other, which I believe we should all try to bring back to this country.

“I am a chronic romantic, so I admire and appreciate what is romance which is what this day stands for. A day to talk about love, and in my opinion this love should also extend to Nigeria.

“Nigerians should learn to love each other, devoid of political party leanings, or religion or ethnicity. They should bring back that love that does not criticize each, that love that does not judge. The love that appreciates each other for what we are, appreciates each other for where we come from. It does not mind if you are villager or a township person, whether we are young or old, we are all human beings. We respect each other.”

She said the Fusion was a new restaurant in Calabar, which offered something different from the usual and thought it necessary to organize a Valentine Dinner to drive home the message of love.

“We bought roses and made husbands to profess love to their wives. Today 10 couples professed love to each other here. There was an 83 year old that professed love to his 78-year old wife. There was also High Chief Gabriel Umoden, the proprietor of Access Schools, who professed love to his wife of 48 years. He actually knelt down. The younger ones also did same.

“We are having a wonderful evening. We have finished dinner. We are dancing in there. That is the joy of being Calabar. All of us, young and old, we all dance and celebrate with each other, our children and our grandchildren,” she said.
