Sokoto distributes free drugs to pregnant women, children

Sokoto State Government has distributed drugs worth N100 million free to pregnant women and children below the age of five years.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Balarabe Kakale has disclosed this to newsmen in Sokoto on Tuesday.

Kakale explained that the drugs were distributed to all hospitals and other health facilities across the 23 local governments of the state.

He said the drugs being distributed to the children include deworming tablets, antimalarials, anti pneumonia, anti diarrhoeal and anti typhoid, among others.

Accordingly, the Commissioner explained that the drugs for the pregnant women include blood tonics, antimalarials,nutritional supplements, sanitary wares and mama kits,among others while disclosing that? various committees had been set up to ensure that the officials handling the distribution of the drugs are God-fearing, diligent and honest.

His words: ”The gesture is aimed at further reducing maternal mortality, as well as alleviate suffering of the people of the state.”
