Phillips Restates Commitment to Credible LG Elections as LASIEC Concludes Inspection of Electoral Officers’ Offices

The Chairman, Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission ( LASIEC ), Hon. Justice Ayotunde Phillips, has reassured Lagos State residents on the determination of the Commission to ensure the conduct of free, fair and credible elections into the 57 Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas of the State.Hon. Justice Phillips gave the assurance today while speaking with journalists at Itire Ikate Local Council Development Area of the State after the conclusion of the inspection tour to the offices of Electoral Officers in the 57 Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas.

She added that she was very glad that the Commission was able to embark on the inspection tour, stressing that the tour afforded the Commission the opportunity to know the true state of the offices of its Electoral Officers in the various Councils.

The Chairman commended the Sole Administrators and the management of the various Councils for their resolve to support the desire of the Commission to make the offices of Electoral Officers conducive for work in view of the impending Local Government  elections  which,  she noted, would put the Officers under serious pressure.

Noting that only happy workers could be productive, Hon. Justice Phillips pointed out that the Commission would do everything in its power to ensure the welfare and happiness of its staff so as to make the staff fully committed to the mission of the Commission to conduct free, fair and credible elections into the Local Government Councils of the State.

Also in a chat with newsmen at the occasion, the Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Mr. Olumide Lawal, described the experience of the Commission during the tour as quite illuminating, noting that while some of the offices were good, others were in a various serious state of disrepair.

He expressed the hope that the promises made by the authorities of the various Councils to make the offices of the Electoral Officers conducive and comfortable for the Officers would be fulfilled.

The tour, which is one of the pre- election activities of the Commission, began on December 30, 2016 and took the Commission to the 57 Local Government Councils of the State where the Commission inspected the facilities available to Electoral Officers.

The six Commissioners and senior management staff of the Commission were also part of the inspection team.
