Oil marketers arrest members in Imo over adulterated petroleum products

By Achike Amadi, Owerri

The Imo State chapter of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association on Nigeria (IPMAN) has arrested three petrol station operators in Owerri, the state capital for selling adulterated petroleum products to the public.

The Head of Operations Anti-pipeline Vandalism and Product Adulteration in charge of Abia and Imo States , Henschel Nwozuzu, said the operation became necessary to fish out members of the association who engage in nefarious activities.

Nwozuzu who spoke with newsmen on behalf of the National Coordinator, Prince Nixon Ahanonu, said that the operation was carried out in synergy with security agencies for effective monitoring of pipelines and petroleum products.

According to him, the sale of adulterated petroleum products poses a great danger to both the vehicles and environment.

He said, “the use of adulterated petroleum products is dangerous because it poses health hazard and damages engines of vehicles. So IPMAN in order to check this ugly trend, will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that those caught in the act are brought to book “.

Meanwhile, it will be recalled that a nursing mother and her child were almost burnt to death when the adulterated kerosene she bought for her lantern exploded.
