Managers to Tornadoes players: ‘Beat Rangers and get N500,000 each’

By Femi Adefioye, Lagos
The management of Niger Tornadoes FC of Minna on Friday awarded N200,000 to its players as a reward for their 2-0 victory over Wikki Tourists FC of Bauchi.
This is coming just as the players have also been promised N500,000 each, if they could repeat the same feat against Rangers of Enugu in this weekend’s fixture of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
The cash award was in fulfilment of management’s pledge to motivate the players to continue to soar in the on-going NPFL
The club’s Chairman, Adamu Aliyu, who gave the money to the players in Minna, assured them and the technical crew that their welfare was management’s priority.
“Boosting the morale of players is something that must be done in order to get the best out of the boys. I am concerned about the welfare of the players and the technical crew and must make them comfortable to motivate them,’’ he said.
He urged the players to strive to defeat Enugu Rangers in the away match coming up on Sunday, in Enugu.
While noting that motivation must not always be in cash, he urged the players to sustain their new-found rhythm and remain focused.
“I am happy with your performance; the team has really improved from our last two matches played in Port-Harcourt and Lokoja. I’m sure if we build on these last two games, we will carry the day in Enugu,’’ he said.
Responding on behalf of the players, Mustapha Aliko, captain of the club, commended management for the gesture.
He promised that they would put in their best to ensure victory against Rangers.
