Lawmaker urges Ambode to establish business district in Alimosho

By Olaolu Oladipo, Lagos

The lawmaker representing Alimosho Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Adebisi Yusuff has urged Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to establish a Central Business District (CBD) in Alimosho.

According to him, building a CBD will not only boost economic the activities of the area but will also ease residents from migrating to other commercially viable centres of the state.

Yusuff who spoke at the Constituency Town Hall Meeting put together by the Office of Civic Engagement said Alimosho deserved such development in light of its huge and consistent support for the state.

“Alimosho’s population is more than 6 states in the federation and if almost half of the votes that is coming from any constituency is from Alimosho Constituency, we also demand special treatment in the sense of CBD. People will not be migrating to Ikeja or Lagos Island. They will be able to stay in their own referendum and do the business and this also will create a new town. That is what Alimosho is demanding,” he said.

He however commended the Governor’s rationale of inclusive governance and driving visible development projects in the state. He said: “from the beginning, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode did promise that his government will be an inclusive one.

“He is very unique in the sense that he will not seat in the office and decide what is good for the people but will seek the advice of the people residing in that area to know the kind of projects they want and that is rationale. The meeting is well attended because other gathering of this nature has yielded meaningful fruits.”

The Special Adviser on Civic Engagement, Kehinde Joseph said the forum was a reflection of the state’s commitment to deepen community relations, obtain feedback on policies and afford the community an avenue highlight their needs.

According to him, the constituency has in the last 18 months benefited immensely from the array of state projects including road construction, street illumination, affordable housing scheme, school and health facilities upgrade, investment friendly environment among others.

“It is indisputable that residents of Alimosho have benefitted from the numerous life changing programmes of the state government. Among them are Ejigbo-idimu road phase 2, Ajasa Command-Abule-Egba road, College road Igando, dual carriage Bridge at Abule-Egba to mention but a few. The Public Works Coporation has done wonderfully well by embarking on massive maintenance of 103 roads in Alimosho alone.”
