By Femi Adefioye, Lagos
Portuguese Primeira Liga club Rio Ave are on the verge of announcing the signing of talented Nigerian defender Kelechi John Christian.
The teenager impressed the coaching staff of Rio Ave led by Luís Castro during trials which lasted for about four months.
Blessed with a tall physique, Kelechi played in three positions center back, left full back and right full back during his audition before the coaches decided to use him in a central defense role.
Rio Ave are in advanced talks with the player and his camp, and an official announcement on the capture of his signature is expected before the close of the January transfer window.
Kelechi John Christian played at Plateau United last season on loan from Junior Elkanemi Academy, owned by Alhaji Idris Kwando.
