Candidates emerge in PDP, APC for rep bye-election in Edo

Mr Jude Imagwe on Saturday emerged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the January 28, bye-election for the Etsako Federal Constituency in Edo.
This is coming just as Johnson Oghuma has emerged the winner of the primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polling 334 votes to defeat his opponent, Mr Blessing Agbomhere, who polled 75 votes
Imagwe, who emerged the party candidate through consensus, was the former Senior Special Assistant on Youths and Students Matters to Dr Goodluck Jonathan.
The seat for the Etsako Federal Constituency was declared vacant after the occupant, Mr Philip Shaibu was elected deputy to Governor Godwin Obaseki.
The Chairman, PDP Electoral Committee, Mr Tony Omoaghie said that only one candidate was vying for the ticket, adding that delegates eventually harmonised the process.
“The process has been harmonised and delegates unanimously adopted Mr Jude Imagwe since there is no other candidates contesting for the seat.
“As the chairman of this electoral committee, I declare Mr Jude Imagwe as winner of the primaries,’’ he said.
The Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee, Sen. Bala Ibn Na’Allah, who declared the result, said that 411 delegates were accredited for the election.
Na’Allah said that 409 cast their votes, and there were two invalid votes.
“With the power confined on me, I hereby declare Johnson Oghuma winner of this primaries. This is just the first step to the election proper. I urge all party members to close ranks and ensure that this candidate emerge victorious come Jan 28 bye-election,” he said.
Earlier, the other candidate of the party, Blessing Agbomehere had called for the cancellation of the primaries, saying that the process was compromised.
