One killed, 15 injured as herdsmen sack Niger village

A yet to be identified person was killed just as 15 others were said to have been seriously injured in a midnight attack by cattle rustlers in Angwar Umadi Village in Shiroro Local Government area of Niger State.

The attack is coming barely 24 hours after the state government had assured people of Shiroro and Rafi local government areas of its readiness to tackle the upsurge in cases of kidnapping and cattle rustling.

The deceased identified as a 19 year old senior secondary school (SSS11) student was shot at closed range by the armed rustlers.

According to an eyewitness, the deceased came out to ease himself but not knowing that the bandits who were operating at about 12 am were around.

Unfortunately for him, the cattle hustlers who were said to be about 40 in number shot him dead at point blank.

The cattle rustlers who were about 40 in number was said to have operated for about an hour shooting and machetting villagers who tried to escape.

One of the villagers, Isaiah Baga disclosed that 212 cattle and a number of sheep were taken away, including seven new motorcycles.

He said that security agents were yet to come to the village after the villagers had reported the incident to them, “we have reported the latest attack to the authority but were are yet to hear from them”.

This attack is said to be the 20th attack on communities in Shiroro local government area of the state in recent months which have left over 100 people killed and over 1,500 cattle and sheep stolen away.
