PDP crisis will be over by March, says Senate minority whip

By Sunday Aloba, Ado-Ekiti

Senate Minority Whip, Senator Biodun Olujimi, has expressed optimism that the factional crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will be resolved latest by March.

According to her, the need to nip the crisis in the bud will help to reposition it ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Olujimi who represents Ekiti South in the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly expressed confidence that the PDP will win next year’s governorship poll in Ekiti maintaining that the party remains “the most popular in the state.”

She spoke on Tuesday in her hometown, Omuo Ekiti, East Local Government Area while distributing New Year gifts to the people of the senatorial district.

Responding to a question on the polarization of the PDP in the state, she said the issue could be traced to the situation of the party at the centre where the Ali Modu Sheriff and the Ahmed Makarfi factions are still battling for the soul of the party.

The former deputy governor of the state noted that the moment the factional crisis is resolved at the national level, peace and unity will return to the local chapter.

The senator expressed confidence that the factional crisis which contributed to the party’s loss in the Ondo State governorship election won’t repeat itself in Ekiti in the 2018 poll.

Her words: “It was the PDP that worked against the PDP in Ondo State but Ekiti is homogenous, we know each other here and the moment there is a level-playing field, PDP will win resoundingly.

“We have not been able to resolve issues at the centre; the moment we resolve at the centre, things will fall in line in the party here and we have given ourselves a window of between January and March to resolve all issues.”
