The ongoing supremacy battle between the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and Olugbo of Ugboland, Oba Obateru Akinruntan is causing a ripple between people of Ugbo kingdom and Igbokoda both in Ilaje local government area of Ondo State.
This is because Ugbo Kingdom Youths (UKY) have attacked the traditional ruler of Igbokoda, Oba Afolabi Odidiomo for insulting Akinruntan following his stand on Ooni’s stool and on Ile-Ife heroine, Moremi.
In the said interview published by a Magazine in Ondo state, Odidiomo was said to have described the people of Ugbo as thieves, who always invaded Ife in order to get foods to feed on.
The Olu of Igbokoda was also said to have described Olugbo of Ugbo as real traitor, who out of greed, lust for women and inability to keep secrets, betrayed his people instead of attributing the act of treachery to Moremi.
But, a statement issued and signed the chairman of UKY, Mr. Nana Sunday and which was make available to newsmen in Akure, the state capital, described Odidiomo and the people of Igbokoda as ingrates, whom they said have benefited a lot from the people of Ugbo.
The group wondered why a third class monarch would be involving himself in an issue between two first class monarchs in Yorubaland.
UKY added that Akinruntan as one of the globally accepted captains of industry and due to his integrity in the business world has made the Queen of England, Elizabeth to honour him.
The youths noted that Odidiomo should always be grateful to Olugbo for coming to his rescue when he was been detained at police net for alleged murder case.
They said Ugbo people are not thieves but one of the dynamic and enterprising people in Nigeria and whose primary occupation is fishing.
They said the people of Ugbo are very accommodating with good characters and who always leave behind positive mark in any positions they hold in the country and in the state.
