Amosun Pays Severance for Gbenga Daniel’s Appointees, others

In furtherance of his commitment to the welfare of the people of Ogun State regardless of their political or religious leanings, Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, on Wednesday, cleared the backlog of severance allowance due to political appointees who served during the tenure of former Governor Gbenga Daniel.

To achieve that, the state government earmarked the sum of N1bn to clear the balance of severance allowance of political appointees who served between 2007 and 2011 as well as those who served between 2011 and 2015.

Beyond that, the state government also approved the payment of N5.5bn to clear 6 months arrears of outstanding cooperative deductions of all categories of staff in Ogun State.
In the same vein, the state government has also paid N6bn as outstanding gratuities to pensioners for a period covering November 2012 to January 2014.
In all, the Ogun State government paid a total of N12.5bn to workers at both the state and local government levels.
Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Taiwo Adeoluwa, who disclosed these at a press conference, on Wednesday, explained that the state government got N10.6bn from the Federal Government as its own share of the Paris Club refund and even added another N2bn in order to be able to make these payments.
He noted that the governor decided to make those payments as a reflection of his commitment to the welfare of the workforce.
This also explains why in the usual practice, the Ogun State government has also paid December 2016 salary plus 13th month salary to all categories of workers at both state and local government levels ahead of the Christmas festivities.
