President Buhari opens a window of opportunity to prosecute Babachir and others.

President Muhammadu Buhari had over the weekend directed the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Mallami, to commence an investigation into allegations of corruption against key members of his administration with the sole purpose of prosecuting anyone found culpable. The directive was contained in a statement issued by Mallam Garba Shehu, a senior spokesman of the president through his twitter handle @GarShehu and obtained by @BlackfaceNews.

The statement reads;

“The attention of the Presidency has been drawn to a number of reports in the media, in which various accusations of corruption have been levelled against some top officials in the administration.

In that regard, President Buhari has instructed the Attorney General of the Federation to investigate the involvement of any top government official accused of any wrong-doing. If any of them are liable they will not escape prosecution.”

It would be recalled that the Senate last week accused the Secretary to the Government  Babachir David Lawal of the Federation of contract scam in the Presidential Initiative on North East. The Senate called for his resignation and prosecution.

Other top government officials accused so far include the Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Tukur Buratai, who was alleged to own two plazas in Dubai, and the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, who was alleged to have collected five hundred Million Naira bribe from MTN to effect reduction of the fine levied against the company for the sales of unregistered SIM lines  to unsuspecting subscribers.
