Poll rerun threat: Rivers APC urges Wike to submit self to probe panel

By Tom Amakri, Port Harcourt

The Rivers State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Davies Ikanya, has insisted that Governor Nyesom Wike must submit himself to the probe panel floated by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris.

The probe arose as a result of Wike’s threat to kill officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) who might decline to rig December 10 rerun for candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), after collecting huge bribes from him.

He also demanded the immediate redeployment of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of INEC in Rivers state, Aniedi Ikoiwak, for allegedly colluding with the Rivers governor and the PDP to rig the legislative elections across the three senatorial districts of the state.

Ikanya on Monday in Port Harcourt, through his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Media and Public Affairs, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, stated that if not for the massive rigging across the 23 local government areas of the state by the ruling PDP’s thugs, all the candidates of the main opposition APC in the state would have emerged victorious during the rerun.

“Tell the electoral officers in Etche and Khana LGAs to return my money or I will kill them. I will make sure that they will not leave Rivers State. I understand that both of them are from Plateau State. I will kill them, if they do not return my money.”

The Rivers governor had on Sunday, during a victory thanksgiving mass of the PDP declared that the government and people of the state would not be party to the police’s “phoney” probe panel, saying the police could not deliberately murder Rivers people in cold blood and turn round to investigate.

Wike also claimed that the phoney probe on the rerun had a predetermined goal, which he alleged would be to indict PDP members and commence their politically-motivated prosecution.

Ikanya said: “With this latest revelation (through the rigging audio tape), we have been vindicated that Wike is the most bloodthirsty governor in Nigeria, who if not checked, will surely derail our democracy. Who knows how many Rivers State people that Wike and his PDP hoodlums would have killed, if not for the police and other security agencies.

“Wike must submit himself to the police probe panel to assist the police to unearth and end the killings in Rivers State. Wike has the habit of setting up funny probe panels. He should not be afraid to submit himself to a probe panel that will assist to restore the sanctity of lives in our dear state, unless he is indirectly accepting the fact that he has a hand in most of the political killings in Rivers State.
