Ex-governor’s son joins Ekiti governorship race

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State and son of a former governor of old Ondo State, Muyiwa Olumilua, has signified his intention to contest for the governorship seat in 2018.

Olumilua, son of former governor of Evangelist Bamidele Olumilua, made the declaration on Monday in his hometown of Ikere Ekiti calling for the support of his kinsmen.

The declaration was attended by leaders and members of APC in all the eleven wards in Ikere Local Government and all the aspirant’s coordinators in the 16 local government areas of the state.

The younger Olumilua who served as Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Projects Monitoring during the administration of Dr. Kayode Fayemi said he took the decision to seek the highest office in the state to execute policies that will make life easier for the masses.

He explained that job creation for youths, workers’ welfare, human development, investment in agriculture, tourism and industrial development will be his priority if he wins the nomination of his party and the governorship poll.

The engineer-turned politician said he had prayed and consulted widely before taking the decision to join the governorship contest urged party members in Ikere to support his bid.

Muyiwa said: “I have given it a thought and I am ready to give what it takes to serve Ekiti people better. We will create jobs for our youths, we will take care of the aged and we will not toy with workers’ welfare.

“I want you to support me, I am not going to be governor over Ikere only but by the he grace of God, I will be governor of Ekiti State and our agitation is that the governorship should shift to Ekiti South.”

The elder Olumilua described his son as humble politician and lover of people but noted that he final decision rests on party members and the electorate.
