We’re ready for 2016/2017 premier league season, says Enyimba boss

By Femi Adefioye, Lagos
The Chairman of Enyimba International Football Club of Aba, Chief Felix Anyansi-Agwu, on Friday assured that his team was fully prepared for the 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.
Enyimba will take on Sunshine Stars FC of Akure on January 15 in their Match Day 1 fixture of the new league season, a match Anyansi-Agwu stated that his team would be looking towards securing victory.
“Our first game of the league season against Sunshine Stars is going to be a very big game. But I expect nothing less than a win for us, especially because we are beginning our campaign at home.
“Sunshine Stars have always been tough opponents, but we have a special mentality with which we approach games like this, and that is why we are Enyimba.
“However, I think what matters most is how well you have prepared for the league. It’s not just about the Match Day 1 game because at some point you are still going to meet the other 18 clubs in the league.
“Now we have barely a month left before the new league season begins and I think it will be an interesting one,” he said.
The Aba Elephants hold a slim head-head record against Sunshine Stars, having won twice and lost once, with three draws in the last three seasons.
Enyimba were held to a goalless draw at home, while they lost 0-2 away to Sunshine Stars in the return fixture of the 2015/2016 NPFL season.
Sunshine Stars however finished the league season in sixth place, while Enyimba ended 10th on the 20-club NPFL table.
