Kano court convicts man for 14 years for raping minor

A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has sentenced a 46 year-old man, Salisu Abdullahi to 14 years in prison without an option of fine for defiling a minor.

The convict had appeared before the court to answer allegation stating that he illicitly had sexual intercourse with an eight year -old school girl (name withheld).

Presided over by Justice J K. Omotosho who reached the verdict, saying the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable that the convict committed the ungodly act.

He however dismissed the evidence given by the convict, who made frantic efforts to squash the allegation levied against him before the court.

National Agency For the Prohibition in Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP had arraigned the convict on a one count charge, stating that, he acted in a manner that contravened the provision of Section 16 of NAPTIP Enforcement and Administration Act.

The convict appealed to the court for leniency, counsel to the pedophile, barrister Jamilu Ahmed urge the court to tamper justice with mercy.

Further in the pleading for leniency, Barrister Jamilu Ahmed informed the court that, the convict is married with children, adding that he has an aged mother, whom all depend on him for livelihood, noting that, Salisu is remorseful and “ he is a first time offender, and he is in custody for close to one year”, he pleaded.

Delivering his judgment, Justice J.K Omotsho resent the unrepentant attitude of the convict, while the trial lasted. He order Salisu to proceed to serve 14 years in jail without an option of fine, he further order the convict to pay N 2 million fine without option.
