Ex-Reps speaker, Nwuche writes IGP over alleged threat of assassination

By Wahab Akanji, Abuja

A former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Prince Chibudom Nwuche has written to the Inspector-General of Police(IGP), Mr. Ibrahim Idris over alleged assassination attempts on his life.
He said five gunmen in Army uniforms invaded his office.
He said he suspected that the assassins were after some video clips and documents in connection with the ongoing investigation of alleged diversion of N2.7billion votes of the Presidential Amnesty Programme by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The EFCC has received the video tapes on how the cash wired into the accounts of the brothers of a former coordinator of the scheme, Dr. Kingsley Kuku and some former militants
Kuku, who is suspected to be on exile, is allegedly holed up in the United States and he is yet to respond to EFCC’s invitation since July 28, 2015.
Nwuche is under investigation for allegedly collecting the funds for contract yet to be executed.
The former Deputy Speaker has however told interrogators that he did not divert the N2.7billion into private use.
While the EFCC was intensifying its probe, Nwuche said some gunmen on Tuesday invaded his office in Abuja.
His letter to the IGP reads in part: “I write to offer you my sincere compliments and also inform you of recent diabolical attempts to assassinate me by obviously sponsored gun-wielding persons who attacked my office in Abuja on Tuesday November 29, 2016.
“The heavily armed gunmen, who were five in number and dressed in Nigerian Army uniforms stormed my office located along Colorado Street, Maitama at about 10.30am in the morning, and held the staff hostage at gun point while stringently demanding for me and a certain Mr. Wasiu who is the Foundation for Youth Development’s (FYD) Project Manager for the Niger Delta Amnesty Programme.
“They also demanded for and seized a video recording of monies loaned to the Amnesty programme on the instructions of Mr. Kingsley Kuku – the ex-Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, through his agents by officials of FYD.
“They further forced the accounting staff at gun point to open the office safe and made away with millions of naira consisting of staff salaries, pension contributions and sundry expenses as well as other documents. “
Nwuche said he suspected the assassins were after his life to prevent him from telling the truth to EFCC.
The former Deputy Speaker added: “This dare-devil attack on my office is no coincidence, as it eloquently complements the threats on my life from some obnoxious persons to prevent me from revealing the truth, especially as it concerns monies borrowed from the Foundation for Youth Development (FYD) which I Chair by Mr. Kingsley Kuku and his representatives.
“It is also very instructive that the video evidence of the collection of the loaned funds from the FYD (whose existence was confidential and only made known to certain persons) was the main target of the gun-wielding invaders of my office.
“The attack at my office is coming barely 24 hours after a search in my house by people who claimed to be security operatives and I am apprehensive of this uncanny coincidence, where an assassination attempt is made on my life the very next morning.
“This is coming on the heels of several threats from known persons who want me to be silent on the truth, and others who see this unfortunate event as welcome development to aide them in their well-orchestrated plans to smear my image, having served Nigeria at the highest levels of Government without blemish.
“In the light of the fore-going, I wish to respectfully request your urgent investigation of this grave attempt on my life with a view to bringing the culprits and persons behind the attack to book.
