The Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission (GoSIEC) will conduct local government election on Feb. 25, 2017, Mr Caleb Maina, the Chairman of GoSIEC said.
He made this known in Gombe on Monday during a meeting with leaders of political parties and other stakeholders.
He said that “in spite of the economic crunch facing the state, Gov. Ibrahim Dankwambo has approved that SIEC should conduct election in the 11 local government areas of the state.
He told the party leaders and stakeholders that “for the purpose of clarity, SIEC is giving you 90 days notice of the poll.”
Maina added that the Commission would give each of the political parties a copy of the guidelines and election timetable.
He assured the parties that SIEC would be honest and transparent and urged them to conduct their primaries within the time frame that would be given to them.
“I also want to appeal to the leadership of all the political parties that intend to contest in the election to talk with their members and supporters.
“This is to ensure peaceful campaigns, primaries and the election proper,” Maina said.
In his vote of thanks, Alhaji Sale Lawan, the Chairman, Inter Party Advisory Council, called on security agents to ensure a hitch -free election.
Lawan assured the Commission that politicians would abide by stipulated rules and regulations.
