Mimiko seeks postponement of Ondo guber election

By Samuel Faleye, Akure

With less than 24-hours to the event, Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to shift Saturday’s Governorship Election on Moral grounds.

Addressing a press conference in Akure, the state capital on Friday, Mimiko stated that the process has been skewed against the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Eyitayo Jegede whom he stated has not toured the 18 local governments making up the state.

A visibly worried Mimiko asked “How does INEC expect the PDP candidate, Eyitayo Jegede to rally round all Local Governments of the state in 24 hours.”

Commenting on the neutrality of the officials for the poll, the governor stated “That the same INEC REC who oversaw the Edo Elections which was marred with a lot of anomalies has been posted to do the same in the Ondo state Election.”

According to the governor, constitutionally INEC has up till January to conduct the Election as stated in the Electoral Act., wondering why the commission was in a hurry to conduct the poll.

Though he expressed no confidence in the Election, Mimiko added that the INEC is playing a script which was written by the people in power to impose a person (APC candidate) on the people of the state.

On why the PDP has not pulled out of the process,  Mimiko said he has no power to ask people of the state not to vote, but he could only point out the anomalies
