Ladoja, Seyi Makinde, forge alliance to defeat APC in Oyo LG elections

Former Oyo State governor, Rashidi Ladoja and governorship candidate of Accord Party (AP) in last year’s election in the state has reportedly formed an alliance with his Social Democratic Party(SDP) counterpart, Engr. Seyi Makinde, in order to defeat the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the local government elections scheduled for February 2017.

Sources tell Newspeakonline that the combo was forged at a closed door meeting held at the Bodija, Ibadan home of the former governor on November 2.

According to a source, a committee comprising of leaders of both parties, is being formed to iron out details of the alliance.

Recall that last week Thursday, the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) Chairman, Mr. Jide Ajeigbe, raised faith that the elections would hold when he announced that it will conduct the polls in all the existing 33 local government councils and the newly created 35 local council development authority (LCDAs).

Accord Party has recently been fragmented owing to parallel Ward, local government and state congresses held in the past few months.

Analysts say the development may have weakened Ladoja’s grip on the party, a good reason why he is believed to be building new alliances across party lines.
