Blackface Radio partners MRA to train Journalists on FOI act.

img-20161112-wa0027Blackface Radio, an online radio, in Lagos Nigeria has, last weekend, in conjunction with a Non Governmental Organisation, Media Rights Agenda (MRA) organised a 1-day workshop to educate and inform journalists on how to access the information through the aid of Freedom Of Information (FoI) act.

img-20161112-wa0037The workshop is aimed at exposing the practising and intending journalists  to the use and importance of Freedom of information act in many cases as it relates and affect the profession.

The workshop which drew participants from far and wide across the media practice was massively attended by journalists from various media organisations.

img-20161112-wa0041In his remark, one of the facilitator, Ayode Longe worried that the FoI act has not being maximally  utilized since the bill was passed to law in 2011 in Nigeria. He, however, expressed that Media Rights Agenda intend to increase its use so as to make government official accountable to citizens of the country.

In his own point, Sulaiman Ridwan, one of the facilitators,  exerted that the Freedom of Information act can be used to access information from public and private sectors. He added that one is expected to get the requested within seven day as part of  ones right to access to information.

The communications officer, Eze Ojo, however, advised that request must always come in form of formal letter except with some other changes.  He thereafter urge that those requesting for information must be specific on the exactness of  information requested.

The certificates of participation were awarded to the participants numbering over fifty  at the end of the workshop.

The General Manager of Blackface Radio, Adenike Sanda and the C.E.O of Media Rights Agenda (MRA), Edeatan Ojo advised the participants to make good use of the FoI act as journalists and as individuals.
