Lagos organised summit on Food Security.

Lagos State Government via the Ministry of Agriculture, holds A 2-Day Maiden Edition of Food Security Summit and Exhibition, which started, Thursday 10th November 2016.The Summit, themed “Actualization of Sustainable Food Security in Lagos State”, is purposefully organized to strategize on a new and comprehensive agenda to optimize the Agro-processing and Agro-allied potentials of the state.

Dignitaries present at the summit are: Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, Governor of Lagos State; Dr. Idiat Adebule, Deputy Governor of Lagos State; Alhaji Sani Dangote, Vice-president, Co-Founder of Dangote Group; Honourable OLuwatoyin Suarau, Host of Occasion and Commissioner of Agriculture, Lagos State; Chief Dr.(Mrs) Nike Akanda, President of Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, to mention a few.
Most special Guest of Honor, Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambbode , in his Goodwill Message said the Food Security, although first of its kind, marks the second summit to be held in his administration. He identified the availability of Land Resources, as the major challenge of Agriculture in Lagos State, if Food Security is to take place, but could as well be corrected and managed if the right policies are put in place. He also identified that Lagosians Consume over 3 billion worth of Food item daily, which demands for a strategic and means of Food Security.
Speaking on the theme of the summit, Chairman of occasion, and Vice-President of Nigeria Agric Business Group (NABG), Alhaji Sani Dangote , said Lagos state is taking the championship on placing agriculture in its rightful place, because of the inherent potentials, such as Large population, capacity to make sales , and food preservation , which could as well be wasted if not put into proper use.
Panelists and Resource persons spoke on ‘Guaranteeing food security in Lagos’ , ‘Food consumption’, ‘Food Processing, Presentation and Storage’ , and ‘Funding Agric Business and the Imperative of Agric Insurance, alongside its potentials, prospects and challenges.
One of the panelists, Prof. Bola Okuneye ,said some things need to be put in proper place before agriculture can take place and move forward in Lagos state, some of which are, Availability of Land, Intensified production, integration of manpower, increase in productivity and increase in technology.
On a final note, all participants of the summit are advised to plan ahead, stop importation and start producing and consuming locally made products.
