No fewer than 1,700 horses and riders are to participate at the Saturday grand durbar event in honour of Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III’s 10th anniversary celebration kick starting today.
The event which expected to climax the main ceremonies will hold at the historic Kangiwa Square, Sokoto.
Briefing newsmen yesterday on the activities lined up for the epoch ?ceremonies, the Magajin Garin Sokoto and a Senior Counsellor in the Sultanate, Alhaji Hassan Danbaba Marafa said the horses would be mobilised by HRH, Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, 500; HRH, Emir of Argungu, Samaila Muhammad Mera,700 and HRH, Etsu Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar, 500 respectively.
“Although, the Sultan intended a low key celebration but a cross section of eminent Nigerians, friends and associates felt it worth elaborate celebration.”
Marafa also disclosed that a number of title holders would also be turbanned as part of the events that will also promote book review, symposia, on the legacies and works of Sheikh Usman bn Fodiyo.”
Meanwhile, the Magajin Gari has described Sultan Abubakar as a true reflection of the late Sardauna of Sokoto who stood for honesty, truth and unity of the Ummah and Nigeria.
“The Sultan has achieved a lot since ascension on the throne. We have seen how he promotes mutual relations and harmony between the adherents of the two major religions; Islam and Christianity through peaceful interventions
“He is not different from past Sultans. He is symbol of continuity of the legacies and works of the past Sultans.
“He is committed to every aspect of his responsibilities that deserves attention. I can tell you that he doesn’t sleep earlier than 3am. He is strong hearted with sense of frankness and precision worth emulating”, he said.
