PDP condemns Borno bombings

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned multiple bomb blasts that rocked Maiduguri, the Borno State capital on Saturday and Sunday.
The party also described as barbaric the ambush laid against Nigerian soldiers by the Boko Haram insurgents, leading to the killing of about nine of the soldiers.
A statement on Tuesday by the spokesperson of the PDP, Prince Dayo Adeyeye urged the military not to lose focus on the counter insurgency operations.
“The attacks which took place in Maiduguri on Saturday, killing about six people, and the ambushing of our military the following day being Sunday in Damboa, Borno state by the Boko Haram sect is unfortunate and barbaric.
“We commend the Special Operation Unit of our Military, ‘Operation Lafia Dole’ for their courage and commitment to security of lives and property in the Nort-East irrespective of threat to life of their officers and men in the line of duty. We again commend the Military for averting another attack late Sunday, October 30, 2016.
“While we applaud the dexterity of our officers and men in the field, we wish to further advise the All Progressive Congress (APC) led Federal Government to stop the needless and diversionary propaganda on issues of insurgency in the Northeast and rather concentrate more in providing all the moral and technical support needed by the military to end this campaign of terror.
“Finally, we call on all Nigerians to continue supporting government at all levels in the fight against Boko Haram insurgency. The battle indeed is not only for security agencies but for all citizens to provide information available to them that will aid government in the fight against terrorism”, the statement added.
