Jigawa governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar, his deputy, Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan and over 30,000 civil servant monthly salary have been stopped and suspended for their failure to submitted their banks account details to the state’s government salary and pension department.
This was disclosed by the state commissioner of finance, Alhaji Usman Namadi while speaking to news men in Dutse, said among those including the commissioners, special advisers and assistance and majority of political appointees have been omitted from the salary payment voucher
Alhaji Usman Namadi explained that “all who missed his October salary were those who is yet to submits their Bank Verification Number (BVN) to the salary and pension section ot the ministry of finance”.
According to him, the results from the banks showed that out of the 54,000 employees in the state, 28,132 have
been cleared, adding the state discovered that about 807 staff have no BVN at all while 25,000 staff account numbers did not match with their BVNs.
The commissioner said it was further discovered that about 69 employees have their names incomplete.
“Then we discovered that about 388 staff who are collecting double salaries while 284 are collecting salaries in Jigawa and outside the state, while 104 are collecting double salaries within the state, that makes up the 388”, he stated.
The commissioner said, “as I’m speaking with you, we are working round the clock to make sure that workers get their October month salary” adding that, “most of the problems were self inflicted due to to workers stubbon attitude to comply with simple laid down rules”, he said.
The state commissioner of finance also said part of the problem is that the system in charge of disbursement of workers salaries have identified no fewer than 388 civil servants that are collecting defrauding the government through multiple collections of salaries in the state.
But the state Finance commissioner attest to the fact that, “Yes, there must be anxiety, because the governor instructed us to pay salary on 25 of each month, and people are used to that.
“But let me make a correction, it is not that they are not paid their salary, some of the issue here have to do with workers Bank Verification Number (BVN)”, he said.
